The Monk Seraphim of Sarov is one of the most revered saints in our church. Many temples and cathedrals have been erected in his honor. Was born in 1954 in Kursk. The father died early and the mother raised three children herself. From an early age, Seraphim (in the world of Prokhor) studied a lot and already at the age of 17 made a conscious decision to go to serve the Lord in the Sarov monastery. There he carried out obedience in the church, in the carpentry shop and in the field.
Before and after the tonsure, the Mother of God appeared to the Monk Seraphim, accompanied by Peter and Paul. More than once the Saint found himself on his deathbed through serious illnesses, but every time by God's providence he was saved.
On icons the Monk is often depicted as praying on a stone. Saint Seraphim really prayed a lot, lived as a hermit. His contemporaries talked about the monk's unusual friendship with animals. They said that the big brown bear ate crackers straight from the palm, and then calmly left. The saint generously shared food from his humble table with the inhabitants of the forests. The Seraphim icon is an example of meekness, steadfastness of faith, obedience. Prayer to the Holy One will always be heard. His image must be in every home.
