Holy Martyr Eugene of Antioch is one of the Christian saints who suffered for their faith during the early period of persecution of Christianity. He was a priest (presbyter) in Antioch and suffered for his faith during the persecution. Saint Eugene preached Christianity in Antioch (modern Turkey) and actively spread the faith among the pagans. For this, he was captured by the Roman authorities and subjected to cruel torture, but did not renounce Christ. In the end, he was executed by being sacrificed to pagan gods or beheaded with a sword. The day of remembrance of the holy martyr Eugene of Antioch in the Orthodox calendar is celebrated on March 4 (new style).
