Anna Gotfskaya is revered in the Orthodox Church as a martyr who suffered for her faith in Christ. Her memory is honored by believers on March 26th (April 8th). Saint Anna was one of the 26 martyrs killed by the Goths around 375 during persecutions against Christians, during the reign of Athanaric. The ancient Synaxarion of the Gothic Church records the martyrdom of 26 Christians during the reigns of Emperors Valentinian, Valens, and Gratian.

The historian Sozomen, author of the "Ecclesiastical History," notes that King Athanaric was enraged that his subjects had converted to Christianity en masse under the influence of the Arian bishop Wulfila's preaching. By his order, many of them were subjected to torture and executed without trial or investigation. Athanaric put statues on a chariot and drove them in front of the Christian tent used for church services. Those who worshiped idols and agreed to make sacrifices were spared. The rest were burned alive in the church during the service. 308 people perished in the burning inferno, only 26 of whom are known by name, including Saint Anna.
